Missing/sick students: If you believe any of your students are “missing” (i.e., not responding to any of your prompts), please notify Art King. If a student informs you that they have been diagnosed with COVID-19, please notify Andrea Caviness.
1. Counseling Services As long as the campus stays open, the Counseling Services Office will be taking new students M-F 9-5, and will be honoring appointments with existing students. However, because they only have a few full time staff, and the rest are trainees, currently their ability to do telehealth is extremely limited.
They are working with BCTC to be able to get remote access to EMR (their case site), but they have ZOOM logins. If the campus shuts down, or mobility around the city is extremely limited, they will not be able to continue working with all of their existing clients (.e.g., those without access to Zoom), and they will not be able to take new ones.
This is the website that you can send students to if they need information about Counseling (it includes hotlines available 24/7).
2. Dean of Students The Dean of Students Office is open for business as long as the college is, and Dean Art King has been meeting with students and parents via email or telephone around the clock. Should the college close, their ability to continue this will better than the Counseling Center’s options.
3. Disability Services What the Disability Services Office has been doing: they will proctor exams for students if they want to commute, as long as the office is open, and they probably will be for a while as they are considered essential staff. They have reached out to professors that had students already registered to take exams with them before March 24th, but many have not replied. They have contacted professors who have deaf or blind students in their courses to discuss student access, but many have not replied.
They also provided guidance from AHEAD (Association on Higher Education and Disability) on Do’s and Don’t for making a course (particularly an exam) accessible to students with disabilities.
Tips from the Disability Services Offices to ensure access to your online teaching materials and exams also for disabled students.
